He mentions the chating in game, how the channels are filled with people selling items so no real communication happens there. lol

that's the problem of today's MMORPG...
People don't "roleplay"! Instead of calling themselves warriors and mages, they call themselves tanks and nukers! Cmon..this is medivel fantasy, not science fiction.

because as games get more and more advanced, people do not find it necessary to put in the time to create a backstory for their char, invest the time to make that char and play to the exact char, or actually have a life and think its a retarted idea.

I roleplayed in my KQ days. Of course, back then, there was only one role to play. ^_^
I remember when KQ6 came out, I had such a blast... once real "graphics" started coming along, the gaming industry took off. The later KQ games (5 and after) had actual coherent user interfaces, which rocked. When KQ6 came out, the animated swordfight at the end was the coolest thing I had ever seen as far as computers went. I actually replayed through the whole game after that, just so I could get to that ending... then I saved it right before the swordfight so I could watch it again and again. ^_^
Good times.

I'm not talking about the backstory. I'm simply saying: How hard is it to just call yourself warrior or mage and not tank and nuker?
You don't need a backstory in order to role play. You can start role playing simply by not calling yourself tank/nuker/interrupter

No, it's an action game with some fantasy based characters and weapons. Got Diablo? The vast bulk of the game is just out and out combat.
The story/quests etc. well let's face it, the majority hit the "skip" button after the first time and don't even bother reading the text of most quests or anything.
The "rpg" is only in the very loosest sense in that you're controlling a character that isn't you and is on a different planet. That's about it. Everything else consists mostly of a) killing things b) running around to get to the next place to kill more things.

I don't get the lower review for Factions.
Factions
Better Crafters for Armor
Better Crafters for Weapons
8 Classes instead of the 6 for Prophacies
Better learning curve in learning your class on Shing Jea as opposed to Pre Searing
Beautyful Landscapes (sorry I ment INCREADABLE not beautyful)
The list goes on and on
MY ONLY GUESS
The Story plot issue of Factions really put a damper on the ratings.
Community Stress about Elite Missions
Constant W T S spamming by silly people

I think the only reason GW sells a lot is because advertising, if you are willing to risk money in advertising and its a sucess, you get a lot more from it. I think both are rated 8 in my view. maybe 8.5 since gets updated regularly, which shows GW Staff are doing something, *cough* nerf us.

I've read that they had a lot more issues than just story and community. Features that are either standard or robust in other MMOs is just not in Guild Wars. And they saw that as a factor. Most missions and quests felt like more of the same and the alliance system has issues. Not worth a perfect score.
Matter of fact, they might have gave it some points so 8.5 sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Guild Wars sells alot because its NO FEES. If people had to pay for this, then they would look at WoW, City Of Heroes/Villains and others to get the best bang for their buck. Then Guild Wars would be doing just as badly as Auto Assault.

People call themselves nuker or tank because that's their purpose. it defines their purpose in the party more clearly than calling themselves a "mage" or warrior.
Also, some people consider roleplaying ridiculous. i'm one of those people. roleplaying may be in the name of the genre, but it doesn't mean that you have to roleplay as your character. "RPG" means that you control a fictional character through the universe that you've bought.
Roleplaying isn't required to enjoy a game.

You can call yourself warrior with tanking as speciality, just like an elementalist can say that nuking is his/her speciality. Just calling them nukers and tanks is degrading.
